Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago

It’s been an amazing journey for nine members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. With 19 Clubs throughout the city of Chicago, the nonprofit organization inspires our city’s youth to develop character, leadership, and a willingness to serve their Clubs and community. Every year, the individual Clubs nominate one exemplary member to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago’s Youth of the Year.

The Youth of the Year Award is the organization’s highest local honor; rewarding leadership, service and academic standing. The competition gives us a rare glimpse into the lives of Chicago’s youth positively affected by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, and provides an opportunity to celebrate the success of its members, the efforts of its staff and volunteers, and the powerful impact of its programs.

The Youth of the Year Award competition includes several steps along the way, culminating in a public speech, which was held at a Navy Pier event. Those in attendance included Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The purpose of the video was to show attendees what the nominees face in their individual neighborhoods, what they did to prepare for the speech, and how the Clubs impact their lives. We filmed at four of the organization’s Clubs, filmed b-roll of various preparations for the competition, and conducted eleven interviews. Our services also included a local TV news station b-roll drop for local newscasts.

When the video played at the Navy Pier event to over 900 people, it received a huge round of applause (and even some tears). It has been an amazing journey and we want to congratulate Evelyn from the Cotter Club for winning the award! To watch a recap video of the Youth of the Year event, CLICK HERE.

Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago

The Children’s Service Board is one of the most active and successful philanthropic affiliated organizations of the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. They’ve supported the creation a new state-of-the-art hospital and are now engaged in a five year, $3 million commitment to support the hospital’s Division of Pediatric Surgery, which is the largest provider of general pediatric surgery in Chicago.

While planning its fundraising event, they contacted Delack Media Group, asking if we could produce a video that told an emotional, visual story about the hospital and its impact on patients. We came up with the concept of interviewing former patients’ families and combining those soundbites with visuals of them and of the new facility. Paired with musical scores in post production, their personal stories came alive. Eight months later, and many months of planning…we were able to produce a video that tells a story about the organization and its mission. The Children’s Service Board raised over $412,000 for Lurie Children’s Hospital, which was a record-setting year for the organization!

Livestream Event For Chicago Non Profit

Sue and Wes Dixon Waterfowl Refuge in Hennepin
Chicago-based Non Profit, The Wetlands Initiative, contacted Delack Media Group with a unique challenge. In conjunction with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service & the Lt. Governor of Illinois’ office, they planned to make a very historic announcement about an area of land in Hennepin, IL known as the Sue & Wes Dixon Waterfowl Refuge.

The 2,700 acre area was being designated as a “Ramsar Site”, which is one of only 34 in the U.S. These sites are known internationally as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

In addition to the live announcement at the Hennepin, IL site, a similar announcement was being made at the Dickson Mounds Museum. The plan was to have both sites presenting speakers and simulcasting those speeches via our internet feed. We displayed live video from some of the Dickson Mounds Museum speakers and displayed it on a 60″ LCD screen for those attending the Hennepin, IL event to see.

Part of the challenge with this webcast was the remote nature of the event.

The site had no electrical power (we brought in a generator for power) and it also had very limited cellular coverage. We spent many hours of pre-production on the phone planning for this webcast, calling local cellular providers who serviced the remote area. Several weeks before the actual event, we did a site survey and determined the best wireless cellular provider for the event by testing various services.

After the webcast, we also edited portions of the presentation and delivered video files to the local television news stations for inclusion in their evening newscasts.
