Livestream Event For Chicago Non Profit
Chicago-based Non Profit, The Wetlands Initiative, contacted Delack Media Group with a unique challenge. In conjunction with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service & the Lt. Governor of Illinois’ office, they planned to make a very historic announcement about an area of land in Hennepin, IL known as the Sue & Wes Dixon Waterfowl Refuge.
The 2,700 acre area was being designated as a “Ramsar Site”, which is one of only 34 in the U.S. These sites are known internationally as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
In addition to the live announcement at the Hennepin, IL site, a similar announcement was being made at the Dickson Mounds Museum. The plan was to have both sites presenting speakers and simulcasting those speeches via our internet feed. We displayed live video from some of the Dickson Mounds Museum speakers and displayed it on a 60″ LCD screen for those attending the Hennepin, IL event to see.
Part of the challenge with this webcast was the remote nature of the event.
The site had no electrical power (we brought in a generator for power) and it also had very limited cellular coverage. We spent many hours of pre-production on the phone planning for this webcast, calling local cellular providers who serviced the remote area. Several weeks before the actual event, we did a site survey and determined the best wireless cellular provider for the event by testing various services.
After the webcast, we also edited portions of the presentation and delivered video files to the local television news stations for inclusion in their evening newscasts.
