Chicago Nonprofit animated explainer video

sharEd for Kids // Animated Explainer

sharEd is a Chicago nonprofit that makes quality learning materials and teacher training affordable in India. Their marketing team contacted us about creating a video that would visually describe what the nonprofit does for kids & schools in India. Based on their goals and content ideas, an animated video seemed like the best way to visually communicate the nonprofit’s message to its online video marketing audience.

Once the scripting phase was complete, we worked with a professional voiceover to track it. The next phase of Video production included animation. In this phase, the voiceover track was combined with music, sound effects, client-supplied home video, and the motion graphics for each scene in the video.

Youth of the Year Event // Navy Pier

Nonprofit event video production in Chicago is amazing. The annual Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago Youth of the Year Competition and Dinner is no exception. This year, nearly 1,000 people packed the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom to hear each of the candidates speak about their experience with the Chicago nonprofit’s clubs. The nonprofit event was emceed by WGN-TV’s Micah Materre. Speakers included Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

To film the event, we had two ground DSLR video cameras and one 24′ jib to capture the moving interior aerial video shots. Post production included High Definition editing, music licensing, and After Effects motion graphics work.

Congratulations to Eve Houser, who received the Youth of the Year award. Click below to watch her inspirational speech:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago | Courage

Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago selects students from the Chicago nonprofit’s clubs who exemplify leadership roles in their club and community.

The theme for this year’s event was “Courage Through Perseverance”. As part of the Youth of the Year competition, each candidate writes three essays about specific topics. We came up with the idea to take excerpts from those essays that speak to the event’s theme. Then, we’d film the candidates carrying the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago flag through the neighborhoods where their specific club is located.

We filmed for two days with a small video crew, which included a Director of Photography with our new Sony A7Sii camera & 3-axis gimbal (Ronin), Grip, and aerial drone video crew, which is licensed for commercial operation, with the Inspire 1 drone.

On a separate day, we recorded the audio soundbites from each of the candidates reading their lines. Post production services included editing, sound design, and coloring. The video was shown at the Youth of the Year Event at Navy Pier in Chicago to 1,000 attendees.

After the event, the video was posted online. The video received 2,000 views in less than 24 hours! Here is one of the comments made on Facebook, which demonstrates the power of video:
