10 Sep Alyssa + Tom // St. Ita Church + Mid America Club Chicago

They say there’s nothing like a mother’s love for her daughter. I definitely found that to be the case at Alyssa and Tom’s wedding. When I first arrived, I noticed all the little details that Alyssa put into her bridal preps…customized cups/shirts/bags for all her bridesmaids, customized hangers for all the bridal party dresses, customized signs…the list goes on. Alyssa admitted she frequently checked Pinterest for ideas. While I was looking at all these nice touches Alyssa assembled for me to film, I saw her mom taking everything in with what might have been a small tear. I pulled Alyssa’s mom aside and what transpired was a real conversation about the stages of life and giving away your daughter to someone she loves. This interview immediately became the focal point in the edit. We hope you enjoy this story as much as we enjoyed filming it!!

09 Sep Viraj + Anand // 3-day Wedding in Ohio

Hindu Weddings Traditions Unveiled DVD Banner Ad
When Viraj and Anand contacted us about filming their wedding in Ohio, I had to check out their wedding ceremony venue online. Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio could not have been a more amazing outdoor venue for an Indian wedding. Built between 1912 and 1915, the 3,000 acre estate was originally owned by the founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, F.A. Seilberling. As you can imagine, we were very excited about filming here!

The day before their wedding ceremony, the wedding day forecast included thunderstorms. At that point, we went over to Stan Hywet and scouted angles for our shots. The grounds at Stan Hywet are stunning…lots of vineyards, gardens, ponds…a visual masterpiece! All of the vendors held out hope and the wedding day could not have been more perfect. As we pulled away from Stan Hywet, the skies opened up and poured. How’s that for timing?

We included three days of Hindu wedding traditions in this trailer; starting with the bride’s mehndi. That night, Viraj and Anand held a Mehndi gathering for their families and friends, which included games. On the day before the wedding, Viraj and Anand had a Pithi. During this cleansing ceremony, family members rub a yellow paste all over the bride and groom’s face, arms, and legs. It is believed that the paste softens and whitens the skin so that they will be radiant for the wedding. The paste is made out of chickpea flour, turmeric, rose water, and other ingredients. The bride and groom traditionally hold separate ceremonies. Other events in this trailer include the Garba/Raas, Baraat, Wedding Ceremony, and Wedding Reception.

Before the wedding starts, you’ll also see a group of people scrambling on the ground. This is a Hindu wedding tradition where the bride’s family members try to steal the groom’s shoes. In the scuffle, groomsmen also try to get the groom’s shoes so they are not stolen. At the end of the ceremony, if the groom’s shoes are successfully stolen from the bride’s side, the groom will then have to barter for them back. So, you can understand how important it is to secure the groom’s shoes and always becomes an interesting part of the ceremony.

Viraj and Anand, thank you for asking us to film your beautiful outdoor ceremony. We had a blast and hope this trailer is a wonderful memory of your weekend!
