The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago is a nonprofit organization that we have been working with for several years. Each year, they hold their annual Youth of the Year event at Navy Pier. At the event, they wanted to explain to attendees how the candidates were chosen and what steps each candidate needed to do before they were able to speak that evening.

We worked with the nonprofit organization to produce an animated explainer video script that told a creative story about the candidate’s growth through the Youth of the Year process.

Stories are powerful but when you hear them directly from the mouths of children, those stores become incredibly moving…especially when it covers topics like gangs, violence, and drugs in their own backyards. Chicago-based nonprofit, True Value Foundation, hired us to produce a video about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago’s (BGCC) General Robert E. Wood Club. The Foundation partners with BGCC to donate products and services to the club.
We repurposed video that we had filmed from a previous video project with BGCC and turned the edit around in a few days, which was shown at the Foundation’s fundraising golf event.

We have worked with Chicago-based nonprofit, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago for several years on their Youth of the Year program.

Each year, several students are chosen as leaders at their specific club. Those students then go on to compete for the Youth of the Year title. As part of the competition, candidates write several essays. We knew this video was going to profile the candidates in some way. In thinking about the treatment for this particular video, we started reading through those essays and found some very powerful statements. We got to thinking…what if we combine those statements into a story? …and that’s exactly what happened.

Over the course of four days, we traveled to the organization’s clubs and filmed the candidates reciting their statements to the camera. All of their words were combined and presented to a live audience of over 900 people at Navy Pier.
